Many people ask me how I came up with the name Grand Downs Outfitters. It is the name of the place where I first fell in love with waterfowl hunting, so let's go back to the beginning.
I grew up in eastern Canada in a little town of Loggieville, New Brunswick, at the mouth of the Miramichi River. My dad came from a family of 10, and together they owned a camp on a salt water marsh that was known as the Grand Downs. From as early as I can remember, I would go there with my brothers and cousins. We would spend time at this camp before the season opened, getting blinds and decoys ready. I will never forget all of the excitement and sleepless nights waiting for opening morning! With my brothers and cousins all in one little camp for opening days of the season, we spent countless hours chasing snipes with our bb guns and just waiting for the day we could get a license and hunt with a shotgun. My love for water fowling only got stronger as I got older and headed west to the Mecca of water fowling. The fist year I hunted Brooks was in 1999, and I was hooked. I then started guiding for an outfitter in this area, and in 2009 I established Grand Downs Outfitters. Since then, I have been trying to make other people's dreams come true: whether it's a flock of Canada geese trying to land on your blind or a big flock of mallards trying to land in a pond no bigger than your living room, we will do everything we can so you will leave Grand Downs Outfitters with memories that last a life time! |
